Before & After - My French Bergere Chair

Have you ever noticed how time seems to fly by when you're doing something you love?  I've been putting in a lot of hours lately preparing things for the opening of my shop and rather than feeling tired, I feel energized and more inspired than ever!  Good thing - I have so many  projects waiting in the wings! This french bergere chair makeover has been languishing for months - I've had it partially torn apart and the fabric purchased since the summer.  I finally finished it up last week and wanted to share the fruits of my labor.

Here it is before - on second thought, during...

The chair itself is in great shape, I just fell out of love with the blonde wood finish and the 90's upholstery.

The chair got a light sanding, priming, painting and reupholstering with Braemore's Flowering Branch fabric.  I love this fabric and got it locally at Gifford Street Fabrics downtown.

This was my most difficult reupholstery project yet. Even though I used the existing fabric to cut the pattern for the new upholstery, it was tough to get it to fit just right.

I think the bloody thumb and the burn marks (they call it hot glue for a reason!) are worth it!  Yay me!

Linking up at Metamorphosis Monday.  Check it out!

Add a bit of twinkle to your garden. I will!

Turn an empty tin of tomatoes into a fabulous outdoor lantern - just what my little garden needs... A bit more twinkle!
What you will need:
  • Used and empty aluminium can;
  • Soapy water;
  • Felt-tip pen;
  • A pattern - we used a heart;
  • 1 metre of ribbon (the prettier the better)
  • Electric drill;
  • Narrow drill bit;
  • Safety glasses;
  • Tea-light
How to make a lantern from an aluminium can
  1. Soak tin in soapy water to loosen the label.
  2. Using the pen, mark your pattern on the side of the tin and two evenly spaced points at the rim for a ribbon handle.
  3. Insert a narrow bit into an electric drill and carefully drill a series of holes in the tin. Handle with care as the inside will be sharp.
  4. Thread ribbon through the two holes at the rim and knot.
  5. Place a tea-light inside (carefully) and hang from a branch in the garden.
AND... Wallah!! Fabulous lighting for any occassion. I perhaps will change mine up a bit with some pretty, girly ribbon!

My DIY sofa - completed at last

My DIY sofa is finally complete! I had agonized over what to do about fabric for cushion covers, which proved to be a bit tough since I had a forest backdrop to work around. Having never had to plan such a fabric venture before (since I'm not an interior designer, I see why folks hire them for stuff like this) walking into a major fabric store was a tad daunting. But I think my choices worked out OK in the end. I had asked my mom to make the covers for me (I have no clue how to sew) and she opted to send the pillows to her seamstress instead. Which turned out to be a brilliant idea, because her seamstress made covers for 13 pillows, 12 of which she did piping, and it only cost about $100. Yes, that's $100 CDN (!!!). I found a purple tie-dye-ish linen type fabric and knew I had to have it so I worked the other fabrics around it. I wanted all linens/linen blends because I love wrinkles. I'm considering dying the base cushion covers but will let them be for now (they get pretty dirty with 6 cats all over them constantly). I also switched rattan chairs and am using the white lime zebra print one in the living room now since it matches the green cushions. One project down, a zillion more to go (although I am trying to find a silver tray to replace that yellow one on my coffee table)...

From That to This

The weekend is near, the season is here... time to go treasure hunting!
I love how this vintage hotel lobby key box finds new life as a mailbox system.
